Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Honors over 150 Vietnam War Veterans
(Glen Ellyn, IL)…. Vietnam War Veterans were honored and thanked yesterday for their service during the Vietnam War by the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veterans at the College of DuPage. During the ceremony, over 150 Veterans were honored with a 50 year commemoration pin. This national commemoration was authorized by Congress, established under the Secretary of Defense, and launched by the President as follows: In 2007, the 110th Congress incorporated language in H.R. 4986 authorizing the Secretary of Defense to conduct a program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Erica Jeffries Named Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army
WASHINGTON - The newest civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army (CASA) was invested during a ceremony conducted on April 19, 2017 at the Pentagon. Ms. Erica Jeffries, Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs was selected by acting Secretary of the Army, Robert M. Speer to represent Illinois (North). She is the first African American woman to be selected to be a CASA.

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Division of Fisheries today confirmed that a new state-record hybrid crappie was caught at Kinkaid Lake in Jackson County on March 28.

Illinois Awarded $16 Million Grant to Fight Opioid Crisis
Funding expands access to treatment and prevention for opioid and heroin crisis
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) was awarded a federal grant for over $16 million to fight Illinois’ opioid crisis. The grant is funded through the 21st Century Cures Act which includes an estimated $1 billion to states over the next two years to combat the nation’s opioid crises. Grants will be administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration under the State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis Grant program.

Eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, measles cases being seen again in unvaccinated
SPRINGFIELD – Several mumps outbreaks around the state over the past couple years and a measles outbreak in 2015 in northern Illinois that affected mainly children too young to be fully immunized, are stark reminders of the importance of immunizations. During National Infant Immunization Week, April 22-29, 2017, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Director Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D. is asking all parents to talk with a health care provider and make sure their children are fully immunized.

SPRINGFIELD – With only seven days left to file federal and state income tax returns, the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) is reminding taxpayers to file as soon as they can. More than 4 million taxpayers have already filed their 2016 Illinois individual income tax returns and have received refunds totaling over $760 million. Approximately 87% of the tax returns that IDOR has received were filed electronically. An estimated 2 million Illinois tax returns have yet to be filed before the April 18th deadline.
