Governor Quinn Announces $7.4 Million for Construction Projects in Cook County

CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of $7.4 million for construction projects in Cook County. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois’ economy forward.

“These projects will address critical infrastructure needs in Cook County, improve safety and increase mobility,” Governor Quinn said. “The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which benefits the local economy.”

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation except where noted.

Blue Island and other communities

I-57 will receive shoulder seal coat improvements from north of 175th Street to Halsted Street, a distance of 11.7 miles, for $2,005,150 by A.C. Pavement Striping Co. of Elgin, the lower of two bidders. The communities include Blue Island, Calumet Park, Chicago, Dixmoor, Markham, Oak Forest and Posen.

Calumet City

Traffic signals will be modernized on U.S. Route 6/159th Street at Illinois Route 83 (Torrence Avenue) for $645,229 by Gallagher Asphalt Corporation of Thornton.

Chicago

Bus on the shoulder usage signs will be installed along I-55 from Cicero Avenue to I-90/94 for $362,631 by J.A. Johnson Paving Company of Arlington Heights.

Deck repairs will be made on the bridge carrying the Stevenson Expressway at Lake Shore Drive for $664,153 by Areatha Construction Co. Inc. of Streamwood, the lowest of five bidders.

Chicago and Cicero

Roosevelt Road will be resurfaced from Laramie Avenue to Pulaski Road for $847,999 by K-Five Corporation of Lemont, the lowest of five bidders.

Glenview

Drainage improvements will be made at the Central and Dearlove Road intersection for $99,387 by RNR Trucking, Inc. of Morris, the lowest of four bidders.

Lemont

The truss on the bridge carrying Illinois Route 83 (Kingery Highway) over the Cal Sag Channel will be painted for $867,869 by North American Coatings LLC of Mokena, the lowest of three bidders.

Northbrook

The Salt Dome and Maintenance Storage Building at the Illinois Department of Transportation Northbrook Maintenance Yard will receive new roofing systems for $346,000 by Bennett & Brosseau Roofing Inc. of Romeoville, the lowest of eight bidders. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capitol Development Board.

Palos Heights

A pedestrian path will be constructed for $1,607,294 by Copenhaver Construction Inc. of Gilberts, the lowest of four bidders. The path will run from Southwest Highway and 80th Avenue, north to 117th Street, west on 117th, north to the Cal-Sag Channel, to the Ridgeland Avenue Bridge via Lake Catherine Drive.

The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
