Illinois EPA Features Interactive Exhibit at State Fair's Conservation World

Press Release - Friday, August 08, 2014

SPRINGFIELD—Illinois EPA Director Lisa Bonnett today announced the Agency’s participation in the 2014 Illinois State Fair Exhibits.  In keeping with this year’s State Fair theme “Making Memories,” the Agency’s State Fair exhibit theme will be “Recycling Memories at the Illinois State Fair.”  Using a carnival/midway theme, the exhibit will teach visiting youth how to recycle and highlight “green actions” they can take at home.

“Through our State Fair exhibit, we have a wonderful opportunity to teach young people about the importance of the environment and ways to protect it,” said Illinois EPA Director Lisa Bonnett.  “This year we will feature recycling, including simple steps they can take on their own, which will make a difference at home and for the environment.”

Illinois EPA’s exhibit will feature several games for children including the Big Top Recycling Toss, Ringmaster Ring Toss, and Create Your Own Carnival Clown Tie.  Upon finishing each activity, children will receive prizes such as a pencil made from recycled newspaper, a bookmark listing green actions they can take at home, or an environmental education activity/coloring book.

“The Illinois State Fair offers a great platform to teach the whole family that simple actions really do add up and can make a difference in keeping Illinois clean and green,” added Director Bonnett.

The Conservation World exhibit will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. each of the 10 days of this year’s fair.
