Governor Quinn Announces $7.3 Million for Construction Projects in Eastern Illinois

CHAMPAIGN - Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $7.3 million for construction projects in Champaign and Coles Counties. The projects are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"These street and state facility projects are the type of work that maintains our infrastructure while putting people to work," Governor Quinn said.

Champaign County

Olympian Drive on the northwest side of Champaign will be extended from east of Apollo Drive to North Lincoln Avenue. The work also includes the construction of a bridge to carry the road over the CN/IC Railroad. Feutz Contractors, Inc. of Paris was the lowest of four bidders for the work at $7,092,062. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Coles County

The Mattoon Readiness Center's wash rack will be upgraded for $217,859 by Christy-Foltz, Inc. of Decatur, the lower of two bidders. The federally funded project will include drains, an oil/water separator, an overhead cover and exterior lighting. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.

The Champaign County project is part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
