Governor Quinn Announces $3.9 Million for Construction Projects in Western Illinois

QUINCY - Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of $3.9 million for construction projects in Adams, Cass, Fulton, Hancock, McDonough and Schuyler Counties. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn's commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois' economy forward.

"These projects will make sure our roads, military facilities and educational institutions in western Illinois are well-maintained to improve safety and longevity," Governor Quinn said. "The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive local economies forward."

Adams County

Decorative LED lighting will be installed to illuminate the cables and towers of the Bayview Bridge that carries U.S. Route 24 over the Mississippi River at Quincy. Brown Electric Construction Co. of Quincy was the lowest of three bidders at $531,620.

Cedar Street in Loraine will be improved near its intersection with Illinois Routes 336 and 110 for $74,762 by Laverdiere Construction, Inc. of Macomb, the lower of two bidders. The work includes pavement replacement and drainage improvements. The Adams County projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Cass County

The Beardstown Readiness Center will receive a new 18,000-square-foot roofing system, including replacing roof hatches and flashing, drains and gutters. The work also includes tuckpointing; masonry sealing; replacing windows, sills and exterior doors; repainting the drill hall ceiling; and upgrading the exterior sidewalks and drives. Designed Roofing Systems, Inc. of Springfield was the lowest of seven bidders at $513,400. The Beardstown Readiness Center is an 18,400 square foot, one-story brick building constructed in 1987. It is operated by the Illinois Department of Military Affairs. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.

"The Illinois National Guard plays such an important role for our state and our country. It is our responsibility to ensure they have the best facilities to train in so they are prepared to serve," State Senator John Sullivan (D-Rushville) said.

Fulton County

Spoon River College in Canton will have a roof replacement project. Approximately 15,000 square feet of roofing system will be replaced on the VoTech Building's upper roof. This will include replacing the tapered insulation, installing roof drains and replacing associated accessory items. Western Waterproofing Company, Inc. of Peoria was the lowest of three bidders at $97,850. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.

"The local community really relies on Spoon River College. It's a major employer in Canton and provides educational and training opportunities for students and workers throughout the area," State Senator Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) said. "It's important that we keep the campus safe and the facilities up-to-date."

Hancock County

West Point Road will receive cape seal treatment from east of 1750E Road and continuing 2.6 miles to the east. Microsurfacing Contractors, LLC of St. Louis was the lower of two bidders at $186,332. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

McDonough County

The Tennessee Blacktop from U.S. Route 136 north to Illinois Route 9 will be improved for $1,978,334 by Illinois Valley Paving, a Division of United Contractors Midwest, Inc. of Springfield. The work includes pavement recycling, milling, paving, shoulders, curb and gutter, storm sewer improvement, pavement markings and signs.

Several intersections in Macomb will receive traffic signal upgrades for $497,025 by Oberlander Electric Company, Inc. of East Peoria, the lower of two bidders. The work includes flashing yellow arrows, electrical cabinets, signal heads, fiber optic cabling and other items. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Schuyler County

Illinois Route 103 will be patched for 1.7 miles starting at U.S. Route 67 for $187,125 by G.M. Sipes Construction, Inc. of Rushville. The project will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
