Governor Quinn Announces $11.9 Million for Construction Projects in West Central Illinois

JACKSONVILLE - Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of $11.9 million for road construction projects in Cass, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin and Morgan Counties. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the projects are part of Governor Quinn's commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois' economy forward.

"These projects will improve traffic flow and safety in West Central Illinois, which benefits everyone," Governor Quinn said. "The projects will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive local economies forward."

The projects will be managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Cass County

The deck of the U.S. 67/Illinois Route 100 bridge over the Illinois River at Beardstown will be patched for $232,440 by Halverson Construction Co., Inc. of Springfield, the lowest of three bidders.

Greene County

Five miles of U.S. Route 67 will be milled and resurfaced from north of Cemetery Road to south of Woody Road through Carrollton. Illinois Valley Paving, a Division of United Contractors Midwest, Inc. of Springfield was the lower of two bidders at $2,149,580.

Jersey County

Three bridges in Jersey County will be repaired by RCS Construction, Inc. of Wood River, the lowest of five bidders. They will repair the bridges on Illinois Route 16 over Phil's Creek and Illinois Route 11 over Phil's Creek East Branch for $632,395, and the bridge carrying Illinois Route 100 over Otter Creek south of the Illinois Route 16 junction for $388,683.

The Ferry Boat Landing access road in the City of Grafton from Water Street to the Mississippi River will be reconstructed for $73,798 by Keeley & Sons, Inc. of East St. Louis, the lowest of 11 bidders. The work will also involve the vehicular storage and circulation areas.

Macoupin County

County Highway 12 will be widened and reconstructed from west of Carlinville Cutoff Road to west of Pleasant Hill Road in Girard for $5,157,121 by Thiems Construction Company, Inc. of Roxana, the lower of two bidders. The work also includes box culvert extensions and the realignment of two curves.

Morgan County

North Main Street in Jacksonville from the city square to the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks will be reconstructed for $3,298,718 by K.E. Vas Company of Jacksonville, the lower of two bidders. The work will include pavement reconstruction, curb and gutter, sidewalks, landscaping, streetscape items, lighting and water main improvements. It also involves the resurfacing of Douglas Avenue and Lafayette Avenue from West to Mauvaisterre Streets.

"These projects are a step in the right direction as we work to repair and improve much of Illinois' aging infrastructure," State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) said.

The projects are part of Governor Quinn's $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
