Governor Quinn Announces $178,000 to Renovate Highway Maintenance Facility in McLean County

Press Release - Thursday, February 13, 2014

TOWANDA – Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of $178,000 to renovate an Illinois Department of Transportation highway maintenance facility in Towanda. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! capital program, the project is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois’ economy forward.

“This winter has caused us to realize just how vital these seemingly mundane facilities can be, and properly repairing and maintaining them will help us get ready for next year’s winter,” Governor Quinn said. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive the local economy forward.”

The Towanda Team Section Equipment Building will be renovated and an addition constructed. The work will include upgrading the electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, and rehabilitating the septic field. The project will be done by Laverdiere Construction, Inc. of Macomb, the lower of two bidders for the work. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.

“We need safe, well maintained roads, and that means we also need to keep in good repair the facilities that support our road maintenance and improvement programs. It’s just common sense,” State Representative Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) said.

The project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
