Governor Quinn Presents SHARP Award to McCook-Based Company for Workplace Safety

MCCOOK – Governor Pat Quinn today was joined by Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) Director Joseph Costigan to recognize Tru Vue, Inc. of McCook with the department’s SHARP Award for creating and maintaining high safety standards for its employees. Today’s event is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to workplace safety in Illinois.

“Tru Vue has made an exemplary commitment to workplace safety and health,” Governor Quinn said. “I applaud the company and their partners in safety for making Tru Vue a great place to work and for setting an example for all Illinois businesses.”

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) is awarded to smaller businesses which have occupational safety and health programs that go above and beyond the OSHA standard requirements. Tru Vue has met and exceeded all evaluations of their program as conducted by the IDOL On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program. It is not unusual for True Vue, which is in a high risk industry, to go more than 700 days without a recordable accident.

The company manufactures non-glare glass framing components that protect and conserve materials in a variety of situations, ranging from museums to retail stores. They employ 150 workers.

“We appreciate being recognized by the Governor and the state of Illinois. Safety is one of our core values, and I am really proud of our team,” Tru Vue President Jane Boyce said.

Twenty-eight Illinois companies have earned SHARP status to date. The award is administered by the IDOL as part of the Illinois On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program, a service available at no cost to employers needing assistance with OSHA compliance, safety and health management development.
