Governor Quinn Announces $286,000 for Renovation Projects at SIU School of Medicine and Illinois State Fairgrounds
SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced capital investments of more than $286,000 for renovation projects at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the Illinois State Fairgrounds, both in Springfield. The projects are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“It’s important that we maintain our higher education infrastructure and keep our fairgrounds buildings well-maintained,” Governor Quinn said. “This work will employ a number of construction workers, which also helps the local economy.”
The projects will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
The SIU School of Medicine Building 913 will receive a new roof, concrete repairs, tuckpointing, paint and other work. Sidewalks and curbs will also be repaired across the campus. CAD Construction Inc. of Tremont was the lowest of four bidders at $148,592.
The roof will be replaced on Race Horse Barn 39 at the State Fairgrounds, and a portion of Sheep Pavilion 33’s roof will also be replaced. The buildings are utilized year-round for events, including the annual State Fair in August. The work will also be done by CAD Construction for $137,467, the lowest of five bidders.
These projects are part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
