Governor Quinn Announces $225,000 for Construction Project at Rock Cut State Park
ROCKFORD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $225,000 for a construction project at Rock Cut State Park in Winnebago County. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This project will improve boat access and enhance the recreational experience at Rock Cut,” Governor Quinn said. “This work will employ a number of construction workers, which also helps the local economy.”
The boat ramps and courtesy docks at Rock Cut State Park will be replaced for $225,930 by Stenstrom Excavation & Blacktop, Inc. of Rockford. The project will also include handicapped accessibility improvements, lighting, and shoreline stabilization. Rock Cut State Park, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, is a 3,100 acre recreational area with a 162 acre lake. The construction project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
This project is being done in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Great Parks Partnership Initiative, which uses state funds to improve state parks throughout Illinois.
"Rock Cut State Park has long been one of the most popular recreational attractions in the Rockford region, for both local residents and visitors,” State Senator Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford) said. “The improvements will allow people to more fully enjoy Rock Cut's centerpiece, Pierce Lake, and they are essential if we want to maintain this treasured asset."
This project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
