Governor Quinn Announces $520,000 for Construction Project at Rock Valley College
ROCKFORD– Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of $520,000 for a construction project at Rock Valley College in Rockford. The project is part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This project addresses needed improvements at Rock Valley College while creating a number of construction jobs, which will help the local economy as well,” Governor Quinn said.
The project involves upgrading the campus electrical system. The high voltage feeder and switch gear, plus associated conduit and wiring, will be upgraded by Special Power, Inc. of Rockford, the lowest of four bidders at $307,593. Another part of the work involves replacing the emergency lighting power systems in two campus buildings, including associated wiring, and installing natural gas fired generators. The lowest of four bidders for this portion was Kelso-Burnett Co. of Rockford with a quote of $213,750. The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board.
“The improvements will provide immediate construction jobs and ensure that Rock Valley College remains an attractive place for students,” State Senator Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford) said.
The project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest capital construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest capital construction programs in the nation.
