Governor Quinn Announces $1.2 Million in Upgrades at National Guard Maintenance Facility in Paris
Project Will Improve State’s Infrastructure and Create Construction Jobs

PARIS – Governor Pat Quinn today announced a capital investment of more than $1.2 million to upgrade the Illinois Army National Guard Field Maintenance Shop in Paris operated by the Illinois Department of Military Affairs. The upgrades are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy forward.
“This maintenance facility is vital to ensuring our National Guard Soldiers have the equipment they need to effectively respond to emergencies here in Illinois and to conflicts overseas,” Governor Quinn said. “These upgrades will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy.”
The maintenance facility, named Field Maintenance Shop 10, is used to repair Illinois National Guard trucks, armored vehicles and other equipment. It is manned by 10 full-time trained maintenance soldiers. The $1.2 million in upgrades is in addition to another $1.4 million awarded previously. The $1.4 million is being used to convert a closed state correctional facility work camp into the maintenance facility. Once complete, FMS 10 will move into the renovated facility from its current home in the Paris National Guard Readiness Center.
“This new maintenance facility will give our Soldiers a better, more efficient place to work and will also alleviate a parking problem at the Paris Readiness Center,” Brig. Gen. Daniel M. Krumrei, the Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard, said. “I’d like to thank the Paris community for their help in bringing this important project to fruition.”
The upgrade will involve the construction of a 7,000-square-yard military vehicle parking area, security fencing, gate and lighting. Feutz Contractors, Inc. of Paris was the lowest of three bidders for the general construction work at $1,080,000. Glesco Electric, Inc. of Urbana was the lowest of three bidders for the electrical work with a quote of $168,339.
“This work will provide job opportunities for Paris businesses and residents while laying a firm foundation for our heroes in the Illinois National Guard,” State Rep. Adam Brown (R-Champaign) said.

The project will be managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board and uses federal funds administered by the State of Illinois.
