Liquor Control Commission November Underage Compliance Report

SPRINGFIELD – In November the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) conducted compliance checks around the state and visited 106 businesses licensed to sell liquor.  They cited licensees for 34 violations of liquor control laws.  Sixty-eight percent of the licensees visited complied with Illinois liquor laws and refused to serve underage customers.

This report is a result of ongoing undercover and cooperative law enforcement operations conducted by Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) agents and local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges.  The teams randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to check for ongoing compliance with state laws mandating that no liquor is sold to minors under the age of 21. ILCC agents also work with local and state law enforcement agents to focus on communities with a high incidence of underage liquor sales.

Franklin and Perry Counties – On November 3, 2011, an ILCC Special Agent assisted by ISP District #13 conducted an Underage Compliance Check at 23 businesses in Franklin and Perry Counties.  Six of the targeted businesses failed.  The licensees that failed were:

• King’s Tavern, 111 Christopher Road, Zeigler
• Courtside Grill, 2 E. Water Street, Pinckneyville
• Handee Mart, 711 W. Water Street, Pinckneyville
• 204 Market, 5728 State Hwy 154, Pinckneyville
• Casey’s General Store # 2337, 231 N. Hickory Street, DuQuoin
• Wal-Mart Supercenter # 252, 215 Grant Way, DuQuoin

Lawrence, Clay and Marion Counties – On November 10th, 2011 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in Lawrence, Clay and Marion Counties. Of the 18 checks made, five licensees sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Worm’s Hilltop Tavern, 49 W. State St., Bridgeport
• Bridgeport Package, 732 Judy, Bridgeport
• Gray’s, 955 E. State, Bridgeport
• Syd’s Place, 1802 11th, Lawrenceville
• Illini Entertainment, 2003 15th, Lawrenceville

Macon County – On November 2, 2011, an ILCC Special Agent assisted by Deputies from Macon County conducted an Underage Compliance Check at 5 businesses in Macon County.  One of the targeted businesses failed.  The licensee that failed was:

• Coronas Mexican Restaurant, 2350 W. Mt. Zion Rd., Mt. Zion

Sangamon County – On November 30, 2011, an ILCC Special Agent assisted by ISP District # 9 conducted an Underage Compliance Check at 17 businesses in Sangamon County.  Four of the targeted business failed.  The licensees that failed were:

• Café Brio, 524 E. Monroe, Springfield
• Riverside Rock N Roll, 6111 Mechanics Rd., Springfield 
• Brooklyn Tavern, 1901 S. 15th, Springfield 
• Marly’s Pub, 9 W. Old State Capitol Plaza, Springfield

St. Clair County – On November 10, 2011, an ILCC Special Agent assisted by ISP District #11 conducted an Underage Age Compliance Check at 12 businesses in St. Clair County.  Five of the targeted businesses failed.  The licensees that failed were:

• Tom’s Market #2041, 369 Freeburg Market Place Dr., Freeburg (Also received violation for employee age 16 selling alcohol)                                     
• Carlyle Food Mart, 1100 Carlyle Ave., Belleville
• BP Food Shop, 1257 Lebanon Ave, Belleville
• Cutter’s , 239 Carlyle Ave., Belleville
• Circle K # 1590 , 10 S. Belt West, Belleville

Vermilion County – On November 3rd, 2011 the ILCC and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in Vermilion County. Of the 16 checks made, 10 licensees sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Town & Country Tap, 9 N. State St., Ridgefarm
• The Ridge, 10 S. State St., Ridgefarm
• Ike’s, 2526 Georgetown Rd., Danville
• Pearson Bros. Liquors, 1706 N. Main, Georgetown
• Texas Longbranch Tavern, 301 Spelter, Tilton
• C & D’s Silver Dollar Lounge
• 311 S. State St. Westville
• Julie’s Shooting Star, 109 W. Main, Westville
• 4-Way Saloon, 103 W. Dickson, Sidell
• Sidell Pub, 114 Market, Sidell
• Casey General Store # 1719, 201 N. Main, Fairmount

Whiteside County – On 11/10/2011 an ILCC Special Agent and officers from the Rock Falls Police Department completed an underage compliance detail in Rock Falls.  The detail checked 15 businesses.  Two of the 15 businesses were cited for allegedly selling alcohol to a minor.  The businesses cited were:

• R&R Lounge, 219 West 2nd Street, Rock Falls
• La Familia, 201 West 2nd Street, Rock Falls
