Governor Quinn Announces $750,000 in Federal Funding to Build Manufacturing Plant

CENTREVILLE - November 9, 2011. Governor Pat Quinn today announced $750,000 in federal "Ike" funding to the city of Centreville for the construction of a new manufacturing plant.

"Projects like this build on our commitment to revitalizing communities, putting people to work and paving the way for future economic growth," said Governor Pat Quinn. "This funding will help rejuvenate the Centreville economy and bring jobs to an underserved area."

The federal funding is being provided through the Ike Disaster Recovery Program and will be used to assist Steel Rebar Manufacturing, LLC with the purchase of equipment and building costs for its new Centreville plant. The project is expected to create 40 full-time jobs.

"We are so pleased that Governor Quinn directed this federal funding to support our local economy, this is just the boost that Centreville needs," said Sen. James Clayborne (D-E. St. Louis).

"This new plant will provide good jobs to our hardworking citizens and will help Centreville begin to recover its economy," said Rep. Eddie Lee Jackson (D-E. St. Louis).

"By directing federal disaster recovery funding to communities impacted by disaster, and suffering one of the most significant economic downturns in recent time, we are helping communities like Centreville rebuild and revitalize their local economy," said Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Warren Ribley. "This funding will allow Centreville to build an economic development strategy that creates much needed jobs and puts people back to work."

Illinois received a total of $169 million in federal "Ike" funding to assist communities within 41 Illinois counties with their infrastructure and housing needs and economic recovery. Projects approved for "Ike" economic development assistance support both permanent and construction job creation, through funding improvements to local infrastructure, company equipment costs, and other assistance that will attract or support private companies in locating or remaining in an underserved area.
