IDVA to host ‘Helping Our Hometown Heroes' veterans benefits and job fair November 9th in Mount Vernon

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) is hosting a free Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits and job fair for veterans on Wednesday, November 9th at the Rolland R. Lewis Building, 800 South 27th Street, Mount Vernon, Ill. The fair will bring federal, state and local agencies and organizations together in one location.

Helping Our Hometown Heroes is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive,” said IDVA Director Erica Borggren. “We appreciate all of the agencies that support these events and are working hard to serve veterans and their families in this community.”

Many federal, state and local agencies and organizations throughout the region will attend the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is free and open to the public.

Participating people and organizations include: Mayor Mary Jane Chesley, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, VA Medical Center (Marion), VA Clinic (Mt. Vernon), Jefferson County Health Department, Green Tree Assisted Living, Jefferson County Comprehensive Services, Senior Services, Fifth Third Bank (Military/Veteran Banking Services), Project Child, Clear Point Financial Counseling, American Legion, Illinois Small Business Development Center, Midland Agency on Aging, SIL Radon Awareness Task Force, Inc., Illinois Department of Rehabilitation, and Man-Tra-Con.

In addition, the following employers are participating in the job fair: United Methodist Children’s Home, Pepsi, Walgreen’s Distribution, The H Group, Elite Workforce Management, National Railway Equipment Company, Prairie State Generating Company, Davita, St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, Manpower, Place-Smart Agency, Morton Builders, Fed-Ex Ground Delivery, Lowe’s, Aisin Manufacturing, Phoenix Modular Elevator, Magnum Steel Works, Unique Personnel Consultants, Extra Help, Trans America, and Job Corp.
