Liquor Control Commission August Underage Compliance Report

SPRINGFIELD – In August the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) conducted compliance checks around the state and visited 108 businesses licensed to sell liquor.  They cited 24 licensees for violations of liquor control laws.  Seventy-eight percent of the licensees visited complied with Illinois liquor laws and refused to serve underage customers.

This report is a result of ongoing undercover and cooperative law enforcement operations conducted by Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) agents and local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges.  The teams randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to check for ongoing compliance with state laws mandating that no liquor is sold to minors under the age of 21. ILCC agents also work with local and state law enforcement agents to focus on communities with a high incidence of underage liquor sales.

City of Charleston – August 19th, 2011 ILCC Special Agents and the Charleston Police Department participated in the State of Illinois Back to School program by conducting 15 underage alcohol compliance checks in the EIU/ Charleston area. Of the 15 licensees checked, three sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Villa Nova Bar & Grill, 1415 4th, Charleston
• El Rancherito, 819 Lincoln Avenue, Charleston
• Charleston Lanes, 1310 E. Street, Charleston

Clark & Cumberland Counties – August 25th, 2011 ILCC Special Agents and the Illinois State Police District 12 conducted 26 alcohol underage compliance checks in Clark & Cumberland Counties. Of the 23 licensees checked, five sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Greenup IGA, 201 E. Cumberland, Greenup
• Kuhn’s Saloon, 25 NW 1st Street, Casey
• The Greathouse of Pizza, 904 N. RT # 49, Casey
• I-70 Beverage Mart, 913 N Rte. 49, Casey
• The Roadhouse, 1318 US Rte. # 45, Neoga
• American Legion Post # 458, 643 Chestnut, Neoga    

Hancock & McDonough Counties – August 25th, 2011 ILCC Special Agents and the Illinois State Police District #14 participated in the State of Illinois Back to School program by conducting 11 underage alcohol compliance checks in Knox & Henry Counties. Of the 11 licensees checked, two sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Casey’s General Store # 2027, 811 W. Main, La Harpe
• Ayerco Convenience Center, Main & A Street, La Harpe


Jackson County – August 25th, 2011 ILCC Special Agents and the Illinois State Police District #13 participated in the State of Illinois Back to School program by conducting 23 underage alcohol compliance checks in Jackson County. Of the 23 licensees checked, six sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Gatsby’s II, 610 S. Illinois St, Carbondale
• Callahan’s/ Calis, 700 E. Grand Ave. Carbondale
• Murphysboro Gas Mart, 111 E. Walnut, Murphysboro
• Circle K # 1231, 923 N 14th, Murphysboro
• Casey General Store # 1891, 2136 Walnut, Murphysboro
• Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant, 1824 Walnut, Murphysboro


Knox & Henry Counties – August 24th, 2011 ILCC Special Agents and the Illinois State Police
District #7 participated in the Illinois Back to School program by conducting 14 alcohol underage compliance checks in Knox & Henry Counties. Of the 14 licensees checked, five sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• World Buffet 1890 N. Henderson, Galesburg
• Broadview Restaurant & Lounge, 29 Public Square, Galesburg
• Mater Stirfry, 462 Grand Ave., Galesburg
• Cenex , 220 N. East Street, Kewanee
• Galva Discount Liquor, 403 W. Division, Galva

City of Peoria – August 31st, 2011 ILCC Special Agents and the Peoria Police Department participated in the State of Illinois Back to School program by conducting 19 underage alcohol compliance checks in Peoria. Of the 19 licensees checked, three sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Flat Top Grill, 5201 W. War Memorial Drive # 120, Peoria
• Jillian’s, 5201 W. War Memorial Drive # 502
• Osaka Japanese Sushi Bar & Hibachi, 5201 W. War Memorial Drive # 500, Peoria
