Statement from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn Regarding the Passing of Retired Army Gen. John Shalikashvili

"There are heroes all around us in this life and Gen. John Shalikashvili was one of them. "Gen. Shalikashvili's story is a great immigrant story. Though he worked his way to the very pinnacle of the U.S. Army and made history as the first foreign-born chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he never forgot his roots in Illinois, continuing to serve on the Bradley University Board of Trustees."General Shalikashvili made us proud as Illinoisans and Americans.
