$1.5 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for South Suburban Chicago
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1,525,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in South Suburban Chicago, including $275,000 to the City of Hickory Hills to construct a new public safety building for the police department.
The building will be built to meet current standards for Illinois Department of Corrections fire safety security, the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and environmental safeguards. The city is contributing $3,000,000.
This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Sen. Christine Radogno, R-LaGrange.
Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:
- $200,000 to the City of Palos Heights to repair 127th Street, west of 76th Avenue. This will correct the drainage problem. The city is contributing $40,000.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Maggie Crotty, D-Oak Forest. - 150,000 to the City of Blue Island to develop a TV studio and media center.
This project was initiated by State Sen. Patrick J. O'Malley, R-Palos Park. - $130,000 to the Village of Alsip to purchase two dump trucks with snow plows and salt spreaders.
This project was initiated by Crotty. - $102,500 to Altgeld Murray Homes, Chicago to replace the existing parking lot lights.
This project was initiated by State Sen. William "Bill" Shaw, D-Markham. - $100,000 to the Lakeside Community Committee, Chicago to undertake a full-fledged awareness, education, and prevention campaign on the spread of HIV/AIDS.
This project was initiated by Shaw. - $90,000 to the City of Chicago Heights to purchase a new street sweeper. The city is contributing $10,000.
This project was initiated by State Sen. Debbie Halvorson, D-Chicago Heights. - $75,000 to Highland School District 106, LaGrange to add classrooms to the middle school. The school district will contribute $400,000.
This project was initiated by Radogno. - $52,500 to the Justice Park District to rehab Veterans Park.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Anne Zickus, R-Palos Hills. - $50,000 to the Village of South Holland to construct a meeting room in the new South Holland Community Center. The village is contributing $39,809.
This project was initiated by Halvorson. - $65,000 to the Council on Aging, Oak Lawn to move and upgrade the offices used by PLOWS, a senior citizen organization serving the Cook County townships of Palos, Lemont, Orland, and Worth.
This project was initiated by O'Malley and Zickus. - $50,000 to the Lincoln-Way Special Recreation District, which serves Frankfort, Mokena, New Lenox and Peotone Park Districts, to purchase a new paratransit bus.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Renee Kosel, R-New Lenox. - $47,500 to the Village of Burr Ridge to purchase an aerial lift truck.
This project was initiated by Zickus. - $30,000 to Family Health Society, Inc., Chicago to purchase a new dental facility in Chicago Heights.
This project was initiated by State Rep. George F. Scully, Jr., D-Park Forest. - $27,000 to Community Consolidated School District 168, Sauk Village to upgrade and maintain its current computer and network infrastructure.

This project was initiated by Radogno. - $25,000 to Bremen Township to purchase a new truck.
This project was initiated by State Sen. William F. Mahar, R-Orland Park. - $10,000 to the NEED Foundation, LaGrange to purchase office equipment.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Eileen Lyons, R-LaGrange. - $6,000 to the City of Palos Heights to help fund the bus service provided for the seniors.
This project was initiated by Crotty. - $5,000 to Cornerstone Services, Inc. to renovate its rehabilitation training facility in Joliet.
This project was initiated by Halvorson. - $5,000 to Acorn Library District, Oak Forest to purchase computers and related equipment.
