Statement from Governor Quinn on Passing of Sargent Shriver

CHICAGO – January 19, 2011. Governor Pat Quinn today released a statement on the passing of Sargent Shriver:

“Yesterday, we marked the passing of one of America’s true great leaders. Sargent Shriver’s mark on American life endures through his work to create programs like Head Start, Job Corps and VISTA – programs that continue to provide new opportunities and a level playing field for all Americans. And his life’s passion, the Peace Corps program, continues to spread his ideal of service to others throughout the world.

Even as we mourn his passing, we must remember that Sargent Shriver lives on in the spirit of service and compassion he instilled in so many.”
