Brent A. Fischer, Adams County Sheriff, Named As Chairman Of State Board

SPRINGFIELD -  Adams County Sheriff, Brent A. Fischer, was recently installed as Chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.  The Board is a State of Illinois agency charged with maintaining and upgrading professional law enforcement for the State's 40,000 police, corrections, and court security personnel thorough the establishment of training standards and programs.

The Board oversees twelve recruit basic law enforcement and corrections academies; sixteen Mobile Training Units; and funds a number of professional executive training programs including the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute at Western Illinois University in Macomb.  The Board's annual budget is $14.0 million dollars.

Sheriff Fischer was elected Chairman of the Board by his fellow Board members.  Board membership includes the Attorney General, Director of the Illinois State Police, Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, Sheriff of Cook County, and other state and local officials representing sheriffs, chiefs of police, police associations, mayors, and city managers appointed by the governor.  Sheriff Fischer will serve a two-year term as Chairman.  Chief
H. Richard Watson, Cahokia Police Department, was elected Board Vice-Chairman.

Kevin T. McClain, Executive Director of the Board, states that "Sheriff Fischer is a strong and knowledgeable leader with respect to government and public safety matters.  He is respected throughout the state and will provide solid leadership during his term as Chairman of the Board."

A life-long resident of Adams County, Sheriff Fischer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Illinois University and is a graduate of the 202nd Session of the FBI National Academy.  He was elected Sheriff of Adams County in 1998.
