Ryan Announces Funding for Flossmoor Waste Treatment Plant

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced that the Cook County village of Flossmoor will receive approximately $1.2 million in Illinois FIRST funding to improve sanitary sewers in the Braeburn/Brassie area of the village.

The project includes rehabilitation of 8 to 21 inch sanitary sewer, including 17,203 linear feet of sewer lining, 704 linear feet of sewer replacement and rehabilitation of 134 manholes, as well as restoration of the construction sites.

"A modern and reliable sewage system is essential to protect the health and environment of our citizens in communities such as Flossmoor," Governor Ryan said.

The money is being made available from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's Wastewater Revolving Fund, which uses a mix of federal and state dollars to make loans at half the current bond market interest rate to communities to improve wastewater treatment capabilities. Money repaid on the 20-year low interest loans is returned to the fund to support new loan applications. More than $1 billion in such loans have been made under the program since the first loan in 1989.

Sen. William F. Mahar, R-Orland Park, whose 19th District includes Flossmoor, thanked Governor George Ryan for the project's funding. "I know my constituents share my appreciation of the availability of Illinois FIRST funding that is enabling this community to move forward with a project that will protect the public's health."
