Flags to be Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Sailors Killed on U.S.S. Cole

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced that by presidential order, all American flags will be flown at half staff out of respect for the members of the United States Navy who died this week in an attack on the U.S.S COLE.

President Clinton has ordered that the flag of the United States of America be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds until sunset, Monday, October 16, 2000.

At least six United States sailors were killed, 30 injured, and 11 more are still missing as a result of an explosion in the Yemen port of Aden.
