IDVA Hosts "Helping Our Hometown Heroes" Veterans Benefits Fair in Wheeling

Press Release - Friday, August 06, 2010

WHEELING - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) hosted Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair for veterans today at the AMVETS Post 66 in Wheeling, to assist veterans with accessing benefits information from federal, state and local agencies and organizations.

"Helping Our Hometown Heroes give veterans and their families the assistance they need in one location," said IDVA Director Dan Grant. "It is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive. I urge all veterans, their families, friends, and members of the community to support these events."

Friday's event was free and open to the public, and was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at AMVETS Post 66, 700 McHenry Road in Wheeling.  More than a dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations participated, including the Illinois Department of Aging, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Catholic Charities, Senior Helpers and the North Chicago VA Hospital, among others.

The event was part of a series of benefits fairs being held throughout Cook County co-sponsored by IDVA and the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA). For more information, please visit www.veterans.illinois.gov.
