$1.3 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for East Central Illinois

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1,318,300 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in East Central Illinois, including $190,000 to Rantoul Township to construct an equipment maintenance facility.

The facility will house an equipment wash bay, a maintenance area and an office and staff support area. The township is contributing $155,800.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Thomas B. Berns, R-Urbana.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

• $105,000 to Vermilion County for the construction and engineering of Mill Street from Illinois Route 1 easterly to the corporate limits of Georgetown.
  This project was initiated by State Sen. Judith A. Myers, R-Danville.

• $100,000 to the Village of Lovington to construct a new medical center. The village is contributing $50,000.
  This project was initiated by State Rep. Julie A. Curry, D-Mt. Zion.

• $100,000 to Cumberland County to provide Woodbury Township with a public water source. The county is contributing $35,000.
  This project was initiated by State Rep. Bill Mitchell, R-Forsyth.

• $100,000 to the Moweaqua Public Library to purchase land for a new library.
  This project was initiated by Mitchell.

• $100,000 to Cumberland County to provide Spring Point Township with a public water source.
  This project was initiated by State Sen. Duane Noland, R-Blue Mound.

• $100,000 to the Village of Lovington to construct a new medical center.
  This project was initiated by Noland.

• $100,000 to Old King Orchard Community Center to construct a community center. The Union Street Foundation is contributing $100,000.
  This project was initiated by Noland.

• $100,000 to the Lynch Area Fire Protection District to purchase a new fire truck.
  This project was initiated by State Rep. William B. Black, R-Danville.

• $70,000 to the Village of Tolono to conduct a transportation and design study for a pedestrian railroad crossing. The village is contributing $10,000.
  This project was initiated by Curry.

• $50,000 to the Hutton Fire Protection District to purchase new fire fighting clothing, tools and equipment.

• $50,000 to the Blue Grass Fire Protection District to purchase and equip a truck for brush, field and off-road fires.
  This project was initiated by Black.

• $40,000 to the Elwood Township Carnegie Library to replace the windows and the roof on its library.
  This project was initiated by Myers.

• $25,000 to the Village of Oreana to modify the operation of its water treatment plant.
  This project was initiated by Noland.

• $18,300 to the Allerton Fire Protection District to purchase fire equipment.
  This project was initiated by Myers.
