Press Release - Friday, June 04, 2010

EVANSTON - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) hosted Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair for veterans today in Evanston to assist veterans with accessing benefits information from federal, state and local agencies and organizations.

"Helping Our Hometown Heroes give veterans and their families the assistance they need in one location," said IDVA Director Dan Grant. "It is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive. I urge all veterans, their families, friends, and members of the community to support these events."

Friday's event, which was free and open to the public, was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion Post #42, 1030 Central St., Evanston.  At least a dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations participated, including the U.S. Social Security Administration, Illinois Attorney General's Office, Illinois Department of Employment Security, Vet Center of Evanston, Senior Helpers, Evanston/Skokie Valley Senior Services and Fifth Third Bank, among others.
