Governor Pat Quinn Declares Pat Green Day

CHICAGO – August 21, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today declared Pat Green Day in Illinois to honor country music star Pat Green, recognizing the three-time Grammy nominee’s artistry and his commitment to the life-saving work of the American Red Cross.

“Pat Green has been a blood donor since his college days, and he has used his fame to encourage listeners to give the gift of life by donating blood to the American Red Cross,” said Governor Quinn. “Thanks to his great musical talent and his great work for the Red Cross, this Texan has found a permanent home in the hearts of his many Illinois fans.”

In a ceremony in the 15th floor Blue Room of the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago, Governor Quinn and Green were joined by representatives of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago.

Green, a member of the Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, has performed benefit concerts, held fundraisers, led blood drives and appeared in public service announcements in support of the Red Cross.

”The American Red Cross is fortunate to have Pat Green on our National Celebrity Cabinet,” said Karen Stecher, communications and public relations manager for the Mid-America Blood Services Division of the American Red Cross. “He puts his heart into both his music and the American Red Cross mission.”

At the ceremony, Green performed his hit song Wave on Wave, joined by his band members Brett Danaher on guitar and Clay Corn on accordion.

“Pat Green’s latest album and its title single, What I’m For, enshrine the core values of Americans everywhere,” said Governor Quinn. “In this song, Pat Green celebrates the lives of hard-working, resilient, everyday men and women who struggle to retain their dignity and hope during these tough economic times.”
