$288,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for the Northwest Suburbs

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $288,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the Northwest Suburbs, including $130,000 to the Village of Mt. Prospect for streetscape improvements on US 14 from Illinois Route 83 to Emmerson Lane.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Sen. Dave Sullivan, R-Mt. Prospect.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $94,300 to Palatine Township to expand and resurface the parking lot and to install a sprinkler system at its township center. $304,800 is being contributed from Palatine Township, the Bridge Youth & Family Services and a Cook County Development Block Grant .

  • $90,000 to the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council to purchase and install a heating/air conditioning system and new windows. The council is contributing $37,955.

  • $70,000 to Maine Township to renovate the Youth Drop-In Center.
    This project was initiated by Sullivan.

  • $50,000 to the Clearbrook School for the Handicapped to remove and replace an underground diesel tank, replace windows and screens and to refurbish the dining rooms at its Lattof Commons, a 24-hour supervised residence for 92 adults with developmental disabilities.

  • $30,000 to District 64 Elementary Learning Foundation to support the Discovering Ethical Leadership Conference in August 2000 and again in August 2001.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Rosemary Mulligan, R-Des Plaines.

  • $20,000 to William Rainey Harper College to help construct a new science center.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Terry R. Parke, R-Hoffman Estates.

  • $13,000 to the Palliative Care Center of the North Shore to purchase a computer hardware and software package for a new patient information and billing system.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Jeffery M. Schoenberg, D-Evanston.

  • $10,000 to the Village of Schaumburg Police Department to purchase and install two in-car video systems.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Douglas L. Hoeft, R-Elgin.

  • $10,000 to the Des Plaines Historical Society to complete the period restoration to the Kinder house. This project was initiated by Sullivan.

  • $7,900 to the Palatine High School District 211 to purchase computers.

  • $5,000 to the Youth Campus to renovate the Soloman Building.
    This project was initiated by Mulligan.
