Governor Pat Quinn Names New Agency Chief
Michael Randle to head Department of Corrections

SPRINGFIELD – May 14, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn named Michael Randle as Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Randle is assistant director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) and is expected to begin his new job in June.
“Michael Randle possesses the professionalism and experience required to manage this important Illinois agency,” said Governor Quinn. “He also brings a fresh perspective toward running the state’s rehabilitation and correctional facilities.”
A veteran administrator, Randle began working with ODRC in 1990 as a case manager in the Ohio Reformatory for Women.  Since then, he has served in a number of positions throughout corrections, including mental health administrator, warden, correctional facility superintendent, assistant deputy director and deputy director of the Office of Administration. In 2006, Randle became assistant director of the ODRC.
As Assistant Director, Randle oversaw the day-to-day operations of Ohio’s corrections department which houses over 50,000 offenders in 32 prisons and includes more than 13,600 employees. In his previous position as deputy director of administration, Randle managed the administrative operations of the ODRC, including the department’s $1.8 billion budget.
Born and raised in Chicago, Randle will be moving to Springfield with his wife and two children. (See attached document for additional biographical information.)
“I have devoted my adult career to running and improving rehabilitation and correctional facilities,” said Randle. “I want to thank Governor Quinn for this tremendous opportunity and look forward to being a part of his team.”
The Illinois Department of Corrections employs approximately 11,000 employees and is responsible for the management of 45,500 inmates and 28 prisons as well as several other work camps, boot camps, and transition centers.
