Ryan: $150,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Rockford and Northern Illinois

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $150,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Rockford and Northern Illinois, including $120,000 to the Village of Durand for upgrades to the community's sewage treatment plant.

The grant will be used to purchase and install two new aerators and a rock filter to help keep the treatment plant in compliance with government wastewater standards.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Dave Winters, R-Shirland.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $30,000 to the Luther Center to purchase a handicapped accessible van to serve 220 people. The center provides various services for seniors and the handicapped.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Doug Scott, D-Rockford.
