$1.1 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for the Northwest Suburbs

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1.198 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the northwest suburbs, including $450,000 to the Glenview Park District to develop multiple use sports playing fields for the Community Park West facility.

Construction will consist of three full sized and two junior sized soccer fields and five dual purpose fields that will accommodate both softball and football. This project will benefit 3,000 persons. The district is contributing $3,351,700.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson, R-Glenview.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $375,000 to the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District to purchase a new fire truck and other fire and safety equipment. The district is contributing $25,000.
    This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Carolyn H. Krause, R-Mt. Prospect.

  • $115,000 to the Northbrook Park District to make its senior citizen facility and parking lot accessible to the disabled.
    This project was initiated by Coulson.

  • $100,000 to the Village of Hoffman Estates to remodel and construct an addition to Fire Station 23. The village is contributing $172,350.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Sidney H. Mathias, R-Buffalo Grove.

  • $58,000 to Omni Youth Services to purchase a new air conditioning unit and to replace the roof at its community resource center.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Dave Sullivan, R-Mt. Prospect.

  • $50,000 to McGaw YMCA to create a computer learning lab for its child care center.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Jeffrey M. Schoenberg, D-Evanston.

  • $50,000 to the Cook County Forest Preserve to construct an educational room at the River Trail Nature Center. The district is contributing $166,666.
    This project was initiated by Coulson.
