Governor Announces Installation of Traffic Signals at Illinois Route 13 and Illinois Route 166 Near Marion

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the Department of Transportation will install traffic signals at Illinois Route 13 and Illinois Route 166 to improve safety at that intersection.

"These traffic signals are another good example of how Illinois FIRST can improve the quality of life for local communities," Ryan said. "There has been a concern about the safety of the intersection of Routes 13 and Illinois 166 for a long time."

The Department of Transportation will proceed with the installation of temporary traffic signals, which will be up within three to four weeks. The competitive bid solicitation for contractors to erect permanent traffic signals will be advertised in January 2001.

In addition to the installation of traffic signals, the speed limit on Illinois Route 13 will be lowered from 65 milesperhour to 55 milesperhour in the signal area to further bolster safety. Right turns will be barred from Illinois Route 166 onto Illinois Route 13.

The cost of the signal installation is approximately $20,000.
