Red Hats To Be Celebrated With Day At The Illinois State Fair

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - On Aug. 13, the Springfield chapter of the Red Hat Society will host "Red Hat Day and Lunch" at the 2007 Illinois State Fair. All Red Hat Chapters in Illinois are welcome to attend.  The activities will occur on Senior Citizen's Day, when admission for persons 60 and older is free. 

Comedy acts, including Purplett's from Peoria and Charlene Mathis, as well as belly dancers, Broadway and Janice Joplin covers and Elvis Himselvis will entertain members of the Red Hat Society throughout the afternoon.

Lunch, catered by Johnny's Restaurant, will be held on the Director's Lawn from 11 a.m. to noon and cost less than $8 on average. Members planning to attend should send an e-mail to Charlene Mathes at bones3245@insightbb.com by Aug. 10.

After the lunchtime festivities will be a Hat Decorating Contest. Participants will decorate a red or pink hat any way they choose and present their creation on stage for the judges. The contest begins at 1 p.m. on the Director's Lawn and the winner will be named the grand marshal of that day's Daily Parade.  Members planning to participate should contact Barb Theobald online at davbarb@frontiernet.net or by calling (217) 792-3980 by Aug. 1.
