Gov. Ryan Appoints Sen. Robert Madigan to Industrial Commission

SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. George H. Ryan today appointed Sen. Robert A. Madigan, R-Lincoln to the Illinois Industrial Commission.

"Because of his legislative background as a negotiator and consensus builder on key issues, Sen. Madigan will be very helpful on the Illinois Industrial Commission," Gov. Ryan said. "I am happy that Sen. Madigan accepted the appointment."

The appointment is effective July 2, and it will require Senate confirmation and expires Jan. 17, 2005. Sen. Madigan will resign his Senate seat to accept the position, which pays $101,790.

Sen. Madigan has served in the Illinois Senate since 1987. Prior to going to the Senate, he served as the Lincoln City Clerk. Sen. Madigan is a graduate of Lincoln High School and Millikin University in Decatur.

Sen. Madigan has served on several Senate committees and chairs the Committee on Insurance and Pensions. The Lincoln native has been active in local organizations.

The Industrial Commission is the administrative court for workers' compensation cases.
