Press Release - Friday, February 25, 2000

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the release of more than $230,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for improvements at Quincy's Baldwin Field.

"Illinois is committed to remaining a leader in air transportation, " Ryan said. "These improvements made possible through Illinois FIRST represent a crucial step in improving the operations and safety of Baldwin Field so that it can continue to serve as an economic engine for Western Illinois.

Ryan released $231,800 in state funds, made available by Illinois FIRST, to be used for construction of a new entrance road, parking lot taxiway and apron. The project is the first phase of Baldwin Field's new corporate development area that is being constructed to expand existing corporate activity as well as attract new corporations.

"These improvements to Baldwin Field underscore our commitment to safe and efficient air service to all parts of Illinois," Ryan added.

Work is expected to begin May 1, 2000 and should be finished in early June. Total cost for this project is $380,000 with the state funds being combined with $148, 200 in local funds.
