Ryan: $1.4 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for Chicago South

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1,411,200 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Chicago South including $966,200 to Stickney Township to complete the second phase of construction/renovation at the Township Senior Center.

The project will address issues of safety, accessibility and external environmental enhancement allowing diversity of programming and attendance, and an appropriate meal site and activity center. The township is contributing $20,200.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Sen. Louis S. Viverito, D-Burbank.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $250,000 to the City of Burbank to repair and beautify the 70th Street parkways.
    This project was initiated by Viverito.

  • $100,000 to the Community of St. Sabina for repairs to "The Ark" youth center.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Barack Obama, D-Chicago.

  • $50,000 to Calumet City Burnham Emergency Telephone System for the placement of mobile data terminals in police cars.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Constance A Howard, D-Chicago.

  • $20,000 to Chicago Park District for site improvements at Jackie Robinson Park.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Thomas J. Dart, D-Chicago.

  • $10,000 to Taylor Organization Youth Services for a computer learning center.
    This project was initiated by Howard.

  • $5,000 to Vernon Johns Community Academy to purchase computers and a printer.
    This project was initiated by Obama.

  • $5,000 to Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce for the "Clean Streets" program. The community is contributing $15,000.
    This project was initiated by Obama.

  • $5,000 to Mostly Music to provide workshops in Hyde Park Elementary classrooms to students under the Public Arts Enrichment Education programs.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie, D-Chicago.
