Statement from Gov. Ryan's Office

Press Release - Friday, June 29, 2001

CHICAGO -- Governor George H. Ryan says his staff will be receiving a briefing from City Hall officials on Mayor Daley's O'Hare plan and spend the next several days analyzing it. The Governor also says he will also plan a public hearing process to gauge public response to the proposal.

"I commend Mayor Daley for developing a proposal for O'Hare. I have said I would take his plan seriously and so I will take the time to have staff analyze this proposal and develop a plan to get the public's opinion," Gov. Ryan said. "This announcement will begin a lengthy process of discussion and review. In fairness to the plan, I believe it is important that we take the time to study it."

Gov. Ryan's staff, including representatives from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, will be briefed later today by City Hall officials on Mayor Daley's O'Hare plan. Staff will then analyze the proposal and brief Gov. Ryan.
