Blagojevich announces $80,000 grant to Scott County

Press Release - Thursday, April 15, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded an $80,000 state grant to Scott County for a new health department building at 335 West Cherry Street in Winchester.

"The Scott County Health Department serves a critical role in the community providing basic public health services, especially for women and children," said Governor Blagojevich. "I'm pleased the state is able to assist in upgrading the county's facilities in order to meet the needs of local residents for many years to come."

Scott County is purchasing a building formerly occupied by the Illinois Department of Human Services.  The previous health department facility was shared and became too small to accommodate the services provided which include the Woman, Infants and Children (WIC) program, teen parenting and elder care.

"I want to thank the Governor for funding this project which is important to the health and well-being of so many of the county's disadvantaged and low-income residents," said State Senator John Sullivan.
