Governor awards $50,000 to the Village of Golf

Press Release - Wednesday, March 31, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded $50,000 in funding to the Village of Golf for a new, public street lighting system.

"As our communities continue to grow, state and local governments need to help provide the services necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents," said Governor Blagojevich.  "This project helps to achieve that goal in Golf."

The new lighting system replaces one that was over thirty years old, in disrepair, and failed to provide adequate lighting.  The lack of sufficient lighting became a safety hazard, especially for pedestrians walking to and from the local train station, and in areas where there were no sidewalks.

"The people of Golf are going to be able to walk around their village knowing conditions are being improved in order to ensure their safety," said State Representative Elizabeth Coulson who sponsored the grant.  "I want to thank the Governor for committing the funds for this project."
