Governor announces $500,000 in funding for the Village of Glenview

Press Release - Wednesday, March 31, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today provided $500,000 in funding to the Village of Glenview for a new Metra train station which is being built as part of the redevelopment of the Glenview Naval Air Station.  This is the final installment on a $1 million grant for the project.

"Chicago and Illinois have long been known for their transportation networks, but we need to continue to upgrade this infrastructure providing better connections between our communities and Chicago's business district," said Governor Blagojevich.  "This project makes it easier for people to access public transportation for their commute to and from work."

The new station at 2301 Lehigh Avenue will serve residents of Glenview, Northbrook and Northfield along the Milwaukee District North Line.

"The redevelopment of the Glenview Naval Air Station has created an array of new opportunities for homeowners and businesses," said State Senator Jeffrey Schoenberg, the current legislative sponsor of the grant.  "This new train station is an important aspect of that redevelopment, providing improved access to public transit for thousands of commuters each week."
