Governor announces $24,000 to City of Trenton

Press Release - Friday, February 06, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today authorized the release of just over $24,000 in state funds to the City of Trenton for new water mains to replace portions of the existing system, which is failing. This is the final installment on a $100,000 grant for this project.

"I'm happy to assist the City of Trenton and provide them the necessary resources for projects that are important to their health and quality of life, such as a safe and reliable source of water," said Governor Blagojevich.

The City of Trenton is replacing over 21,000 of six and eight inch water mains throughout the northern portion of the city.  The old cast-iron mains cause rusty water and result in decreased water pressure, which is a nuisance for residents and fails to provide adequate fire protection.

"The residents of Trenton deserve the safest and cleanest water possible.  They should also know that their local fire department has what it takes to protect the community.  I, along with the people of Trenton, want to thank the Governor for supporting this important project," said State Representative Ron Stephens who sponsored the project.
