Governor awards $200,000 to City of Taylorville

Press Release - Friday, February 06, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $200,000 state grant to the City of Taylorville for construction of an Emergency Services Center, which will house the city's police and fire departments as well as the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) facilities.  These departments currently operate out of the Taylorville Municipal Building.

"I'm pleased to be able to provide the City of Taylorville with these funds to help meet the public safety needs of this growing community," said Governor Blagojevich.  "Our police officers, firefighters and disaster workers put their lives on the line for the residents of their community and they deserve to have up-to-date equipment and facilities."

In addition to improving conditions for the police officers and firefighters, the new Emergency Services Center at 221 North Walnut Street will be able to accommodate all of the fire department's equipment, some of which is currently stored outside.

"I want to thank the Governor for authorizing this important funding and allowing this necessary public works project to move forward," said State Representative Gary Hannig who sponsored the project.
