Governor announces $1.25 million to Central Stickney Fire Protection District

Press Release - Friday, February 06, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $1.25 million state grant to the Central Stickney Fire Protection District for the purchase of new firefighting vehicles and repairs and renovations to its fire station.

"I'm pleased to be able to provide the Central Stickney Fire Protection District with funds to help meet the community's public safety needs," said Governor Blagojevich.  "Our firefighters put their lives on the line for the residents of their community every day and they deserve to have the most modern equipment and facilities available."

In addition to the purchase of three new pieces of firefighting apparatus, the district will make renovations to its fire station including new roofing and new flooring.  The district serves approximately 4,700 residents of Stickney and surrounding communities.

"This funding will greatly improve the ability of our local firefighters to respond to emergencies.  I want to thank the Governor for supporting this very important project," said State Senator Louis Viverito, who sponsored the project.
