Governor announces $47,000 grant to Sterling Township

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $47,348 grant to Sterling Township for construction of a sanitary sewer collection system.  The new system is being connected to the existing City of Sterling sanitary sewer system and will serve over 200 residents in the Steelton and Grimes subdivisions.  This is the final installment on a $100,000 grant for this project.

                       

"The people of Illinois have the right to expect their state and local governments to provide the necessary resources for projects that improve the sanitary needs of their residents and protects the public's health," said Governor Blagojevich.

 

The two subdivisions were developed in the 1950s and have individual wells and septic systems.  Many of the existing systems are failing.  The new collection system involves a gravity collection system, which is designed from Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) guidelines.

 

"I'd like to thank Governor Blagojevich for providing the funds for this infrastructure upgrade," said grant sponsor State Representative Jerry Mitchell.

 

"This project will go a long way in improving the quality of life for the residents of Sterling," said Sterling Township Supervisor David Barajas.
