Governor awards $25,000 to SHORE Community Services

Press Release - Friday, February 06, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $25,000 grant to SHORE Community Services, Inc., for bathroom renovations at the organization's training facility in Morton Grove. Improvements include a number of upgrades that are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) such as wider doorways, sinks and bathroom stalls.  This is the first installment of a $50,000 grant for this project.

"For over fifty years SHORE Community Services has been assisting developmentally disabled children and adults and I'm pleased to be able to assist them in their ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for the people they serve," said Governor Blagojevich.

SHORE Community Services is reconstructing one bathroom and constructing a new changing room/bathroom at its training center at 8035 Austin Avenue in Morton Grove.  The organization was founded by a group of parents in the Evanston area and has grown to three sites in Evanston, Morton Grove and Skokie serving hundreds of children and adults.  SHORE was recognized in January, 2001 by the Illinois General Assembly on its 50th anniversary.

"What began as a labor of love has grown into a mission of caring for the developmentally disabled of our communities," said grant sponsor State Representative Elizabeth Coulson.  "I want to thank Governor Blagojevich for helping to fund SHORE in this mission."
