Governor announces $75,000 grant to Montgomery County

Press Release - Friday, February 06, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $75,000 state grant for improvements at the Montgomery County Courthouse located on the square in Hillsboro.  The courthouse was placed on the National Historic Register in 1994.

"The Montgomery County Courthouse is a significant landmark and has served a vital role in the community for decades," said Governor Blagojevich. "I'm pleased the state is able to assist in upgrading this facility in order to meet the needs of local residents for many years to come."

In addition to housing county departments and records, the courthouse also serves as the focal point for many celebrations and tourism events each year including Old Settlers Day.  Funds will be used to replace the courthouse roof, which is leaking, and the air conditioning system.  A security and fire alarm system will also be installed.

"I want to thank the Governor for funding this important project and allowing this historic project to move forward," said State Representative Gary Hannig who sponsored the grant.
