Governor announces $48,000 for two Eastern Illinois communities

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today authorized the release of $48,000 in state funds for two projects in East Central Illinois.  The Village of Loda is receiving $28,000 to offset the costs of road, curb and gutter work throughout the village. This is the final installment on a $70,000 grant for this project. The Papineau Township Fire Protection District is getting a $20,000 state grant towards the purchase of fire equipment.

 

"These projects are improving conditions for residents of these two communities," said Governor Blagojevich.  "It is a responsibility of state and local governments to provide adequate resources, when necessary, to ensure the health and well-being of the people who live there."

 

The Village of Loda is replacing curb and gutter along Route 45, also known as Oak Street, between Jackson and Jefferson streets.  The current curbs and gutters are broken and are a safety hazard for pedestrians.  The village is also paving portions of Mulberry and Monroe streets.

 

State Representative Bill Black sponsored this project, which is located in Representative Shane Cultra's legislative district.  "This project strengthens the public infrastructure of the village of Loda," said Cultra.

 

The Papineau Township Fire Protection District is replacing old equipment for its members including personal alarm safety systems and protective equipment.

 

"I want to thank the Governor and former Representative Phil Novak for their work on this project to improve the safety of our firefighters," said State Representative Lisa Dugan, the current legislative sponsor for this project.
