Governor announces $37,500 for Deer Creek, Minonk and Rutland

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded $37,500 in grants for capital improvement projects in the Village of Deer Creek, the City of Minonk and the Village of Rutland.  The Village of Deer Creek is receiving $12,500 towards an extension of East First Avenue; the City of Minonk is getting $12,500 for sanitary sewer repairs on Maple Street; and, the Village of Rutland is receiving $12,500 for street paving and water system work.  These funds represent the final installments being paid on $25,000 grants for each project.

                       

"The people of Illinois have the right to expect their state and local governments to provide the necessary resources for projects that are important to their public health and quality of life and ones that enhance economic development opportunities within the community," said Governor Blagojevich.

 

In Deer Creek, East First Avenue is being extended by one block in the business district as part of a larger, seventy acre development that includes six commercial lots. 

 

The City of Minonk is repairing a section of sanitary sewer on Maple Street between 6^th and 7^th streets that became blocked.  Heavy rains result in sewage and rainwater back ups into nearby homes.

 

The Village of Rutland is reconstructing portions of Walnut and West Front streets.  Work is also being done to the water filter/aerator at the municipality's water plant. State Representative Keith Sommer sponsored each of the projects.
