Governor announces more than $67,000 for Villages of Stillman Valley and Lena
Grants to be used for water and wastewater projects

CHICAGO – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced the release of a $50,000 grant to the Village of Stillman Valley for a new well.  This is the final installment on a $100,000 grant for this project.  The Village of Lena is receiving $17,635 for a new connection to the existing wastewater treatment system.
“The people of Illinois have the right to expect their state and local governments to provide the necessary resources for projects that improve the water and sanitary needs of their businesses and residents,” said Governor Blagojevich. “I’m pleased that we are able to provide these funds in order for these projects to move forward.”
The Village of Stillman Valley’s new well, when completed, will improve the availability of water in peak water demand times for the Village’s more than 1,000 residents and will provide a backup if another well should fail or become contaminated. “I want to acknowledge the efforts of late Representative Dave Wirsing for sponsoring these projects that are so important for the quality of life and business development efforts of these communities,” said State Representative Robert Prichard who currently represents the area.
The Village of Lena is installing a connection from an industrial park to the Village’s existing wastewater treatment system.  The industrial park is home to a new ethanol production facility.  The installation of piping and a lift station will also enable, and attract, additional businesses to the industrial park.
“I want to thank the Governor for providing these funds and for allowing the projects to move forward,” said State Representative Jim Sacia.  Representative Lawfer originally sponsored this project.
