Governor announces $51,500 grant to Church Road Fire Protection District

Press Release - Thursday, February 05, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $51,500 state grant to the Church Road Fire Protection District to help pay for a new fire station.

"I'm pleased to be able to provide the Church Road Fire Protection District with these funds to help meet the community's public safety needs," said Governor Blagojevich.  "Our firefighters put their lives on the line for the residents of their community every day and they deserve to have up-to-date equipment and facilities."

The new station replaces an existing one that is severely deteriorated and costly to repair.  In addition, the new station at 4900 George Street is more centrally located in the department's service area. The Church Road Fire Protection District serves approximately 3,000 residents.

"I'm pleased that Governor Blagojevich has approved this important project.  The Church Road Fire Protection District is vital to the public safety of our community.  Chief Dwayne Carpenter also deserves much credit for his vital work on the new firehouse." said State Senator James Clayborne, Jr. who sponsored the project.
