POETS IN THE PARLOR SEPTEMBER 13 AT VACHEL LINDSAY HOME

SPRINGFIELD, IL --  The Vachel Lindsay Association and the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site will present the latest in the "Poets in the Parlor" series at 3 p.m., Saturday, September 13 in the parlor of the Lindsay Home, 603 South Fifth Street.

            The featured poet will be John Knoepfle of Springfield, who will read several Lindsay poems as well as original works.  The program, which is free and open to the public, will

be preceded by music for classical guitar performed by William Furry.  Dr. Knoepfle, professor emeritus of English at University of Illinois at Springfield, is the author of more than two dozen books and translations, including Poems from the Sangamon, The Chinkipin Oak Poems, This Awkward Mud, Poems and Songs from the T'ang Dynasty, and Dim Tales.  Dr. Knoepfle won

the Illinois Literary Heritage Society award in 1995, and has been the subject of a PBS documentary.  His poems are a regular feature of Illinois Times.

The Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site, administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, is the birthplace and longtime residence of poet, author and artist Nicholas Vachel Lindsay, 1879 - 1931.  It is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. for free public tours.
